Trails of São Francisco do Sul

Something a few residents know is that São Francisco do Sul is a city with a lot of beautiful and wonderful trails. Consequently, the tourists aren't even aware of the existence of these trails. 

In addition to the most famous ones, such as Morro da Cruz, there are other trails perfect for those who love nature, admire beautiful landscapes and exercise. But you can also: read a book, have a picnic with family or friends, admire different species of plants and animals, take photos and, on some trails, learn about the history and legends of the place.

MORRO DO HOSPÍCIO TRAIL 

The Morro da Cruz trail is the most famous one, it’s located in the Centro Histórico neighbourhood and has a good structure. At the beginning of the trail, we already see the old buildings and the Matriz church (such in the second photo). After that, the path is surrounded by nature.

Along the way there are many benches and tables, and we can see 3 parts of the historical center: The Babitonga Bay (sometimes has toninhas and dolphins in the sea), we can see  the city from above and also the port (the principal economic activity of the city).

CASQUEIRO TRAIL - PARQUE ESTADUAL DO ACARAÍ

The Casqueiro trail is located within the Acaraí State Park (a natural conservation unit protected by the government as it represents great environmental relevance). The Park Acaraí is beyond Praia Grande.

This trail is great for exercise, it has several types of animal and plant species. The coolest thing you can get to know is the remains of an ancient community that inhabited the place, the casqueiros. You can see the casqueiro cemetery and the church ruins.
