Discover the Patrimonial part of São Francisco do Sul
Have you ever seen some pictures of a tourist place with many old colorful buildings full of windows in front? And did you feel like you already knew it?
I will show you a place that you will love to meet.
São Chico, like the people affectionately call the city, has more than 500 years of existence. It is the third oldest city in Brasil, and presents the Historical Center, with many buildings that show the history of the city since colonization times.
The importance of preserving this heritage of the city was recognized by IPHAN (National Historical and Artistic Heritage Institute), that pulled down about 400 buildings of the Historic Center in 1987. This means that from this date on they are under the judicial care that guarantees their permanence.
The heritage pulled down includes colonial styles houses and other historical moments. It also includes the church, shell mounds, and about 150 other houses.
The heritages more visited are the Matriz church, the Municipal Market, the Sea Museum and other buildings, that are used for commerce and the promotion of local tourism. Besides, it is worth mentioning that the buildings are surrounded by Babitonga Bay, which contrasts the blue-sea with the colorful architecture.
So, I stop here. I hope that São Francisco do Sul becomes part of your list of visits to places with old colorful buildings!!!
